Monday’s Random Rambling

September 26, 2005

Ugh…haven’t been in a good mood lately.  A combination of boredom, desperation, and laziness. Last week was so long…and working 9 to 9 from monday to thursday is not helping either.

Went to sleep with a bad mood last night…as the result, kept waking up every 2 hours or so.  Had a bad dream, in which I was arrested cuz I tampered with a crime scene.   All I did was wiped off the blood from the bathroom wall..geez…

Definitely watched too many unpredictable Asian movies during the weekend.  236828 Tocatchavirginghost_2First, it was Last Life in the Universe, "the story of the mysterious Kenji, a lonely, obsessive-compulsive Japanese librarian’s assistant and occasional suicide hobbyist quietly living - and hoping to die - in Bangkok." It’s just the thing that make you go hmm.  Then, there was To Catch A Virgin Ghost. Expecting a dark comedy, I was faced with a semi-ghost movie.  Our host said "this movie has a ghost, but it’s not a ghost movie." Lucky I brought my pillow to cover my eyes. All movies, of course, were courtesy of Mr. Lim.

Then there was the season premiere of Desperate Housewives…wicked, wicked plot, especially the ending.  We watch that while savoring KFC, again at Mr. Lim’s place…my second KFC in the US in the two years I’ve been here.  Had to make illegal u-turn (i think) when I picked those chicken up.  Lucky Ms. Sasmitra was with me, to congratulate my last minute decision to do the u-turn hahaha.  At these moments, I miss San Diego sooo much.  Traffic is just easier there.

This morning, the energy in the office was not very good…I don’t know why.  Passed FCUK during my lunch break and decided to come in the store after salivating over a jacket….pricy stuffs.  After trying on the jacket, left the store feeling dejected cuz I can’t afford that hahaha.

On the lighter note, I got a new stapler!! Saving my time and loving it more and more each day…

Saturday Night’s Fever

September 18, 2005

A_la_turca_5 Last weekend I went out with my sister and her friends.  It was fun.  We went to a Turkish restaurant and it was really, really good.  I shared a rice plate with lots of meat with my sister, just the way I like it hahaha *blush blush*….and it was free too *blush blush*

Then afterwards, we went to this unknown little bar near our place. The bar kinda reminded me of my days in San Diego.  There, I had this friend who really liked to take us out to "depressing" bars, as another friend like to call it.  Basically, a "depressing" bar is the standard bar, where you can play pool, play music from a jukebox, order cheap drinks, and sit in a booth.  It looks depressing cuz of the not-so-bright lighting and the bright neon sign of whatever beer brands they are serving.  Not my favorite kinda place, but it’s always nice to hang out anywhere with a group of close friends.

Anyways, the bar that we went to was called Nitecap.  It was cheap and gave $1 discount for students.  Some people played pool and took pictures (that’s the thing with international students, we bring cameras everywhere hahaha), while I picked musics from the jukebox.  Love the atmosphere and the companies there.  Unknown_stupid_bar_3

Then, it was ruined *sigh*…It turned out that they were planning to have an open mic night for comedies.  And when it was time, they stopped the jukebox and cleared the pool table for the performance.  They asked us to stay, but then one "funny" guy started to poke fun of us taking pictures in the bar. So we decided that we are ready to leave.

So yeah, we then went home…walking through the urinal smelling Geary Street, turning left on Jones St, going up the hill, and finally arriving at 729 Jones Street.

Life as An Intern

September 15, 2005

Yesterday was a weird day for me.  First, I knocked a whole cup of tea in my microwave when I prepared my breakfast.  This is what you get when you are trying to operate heavy machinery when you are still half asleep.

Then, 5 minutes before I left my apartment for work, I had this sudden urge to wear these pink shoes that always make my feet hurt and have slippery soles.  I thought, hey, it’s not like I’m gonna be walking all day, being the usual day for me is just being merely confined in the small, cozy Hilton’s A/R area.  As a result, during the 5 block walk from my apartment to workp, I slipped and almost fell down twice hahaha.

Then I got to my office exactly at 9 AM (phew!).  But then, a co-worker told me that I had to attend this orientation at HR.  It turned out that it already started at 8.30 AM (huh?).  And to make matter worse, part of the orientation is a tour of the Hilton, which consisted of 3 buildings.  So yup, my feet hurt like hell yesterday hahaha.

Then, we went out to an impromptu dinner last nite to this great Vietnamese restaurant, Aux Delices.  http://sanfrancisco.citysearch.com/profile/36607242/san_francisco_ca/aux_delices.html  It was gooooooood.  Afterward, we stopped by for a mandatory dessert, BOBA hihihi.  As a result of drinking Quickly’s average mango milk tea, I couldn’t sleep until 2 AM…and, yeah, I needed a ginormous quantity of caffeine this morning.  I had like 2 cups of tea and 1 cup of coffee just to keep me awake this morning hahaha.

On other notes, I don’t think my stapler likes me.  It kept giving me bad staples every time I use it.  And, being an intern, sorting and stapling are like 90% of my job (grin). So yeah, the battle is still on and it will continue tomorrow…

Job Hunt…It’s hard

September 13, 2005

The job market is so quiet nowadays…There’s hardly anything that I can apply to everyday.  Is it really this quiet or am I really that unqualified hahaha…sigh…

Anyways, I’ve been interning at Hilton accounting dept since Monday.  A good way to get the experience for my resume, even though I’m still stumbling through the tasks that they gave me hehehe. They said that I look sad all the time, sitting in my corner hahaha.  Even one girl said, "Felicia, it’s not that bad :-p."

The most uncomfortable thing is that people kept asking me whether the internship is paid or not.  And when they know that it’s unpaid and I already graduated, their face went like "so what do you ACTUALLY want to do with your life?"  Kinda got tired of explaining that I’m still actively looking for a good paying full time job, that this internship is part of a master plan…even though I am still not sure what the plan is hahaha :p…

Do you know that crying won’t solve anything…even though you’ve cried a thousand oceans…if all you do is stay in bed, under the blanket, feeling sorry for yourself?

B00007kdvi01_pe40_scmzzzzzzz_ I just bought a wireless router on Monday.  All this time, my sister n I had been sharing one ethernet and now that her school is starting, she’ll be hogging the cable all the time.  So we decided to buy a router.  When I did my research for the thing, most people reviewed it as "easy to install" and "has awesome signal".  It’s pretty cool, it can be used as a wired or a wireless router.  So I thought, hey, what the hell, I can do this.  I always think of myself as pretty good in installing and understanding this kind of thing.  So I tried to configure that stupid thing for 3 hours yesterday.  First I got my sister’s wireless working, but mine didn’t.  After a few tinkering…User name…password….DHCP…WEP…WPA-PSK… , I got my wireless working….but guess what? My sister’s wireless stopped working hahahaha.  And so, I spent 1.5 hours just to make my sister’s wireless to work again…and it never did.  Finally, I just left my sister comp wired to the router hahaha.  And now, there’re cables everywhere…I hate technology….sigh… A friend said that he can take a look at it tonite…I doubt that he can undo my mistakes though hehehe…

Back in the foggy city…

September 5, 2005

Just got back from San Diego, back in the foggy city.  Went out for sushi last nite and just realized, walking back from the parking building, after a really, really cold wind blew my face, that I’m here for good (well, at least until I have to go back to Jakarta).  No more San Diego.   All this time, it just seems surreal…always think that somehow SF is only a vacation stop and soon I will come back to San Diego.  Definitely need to reorganize my thoughts….
On the other note, the San Diego wedding I attended was beautiful.  The bride and groom look so cute together and the food was good, especially the wedding cake…sluuuuuuuuuurpz.  My favorite part was when they released the butterflies….I wish I caught one, sigh…
