I got cultured

Went to De Young museum last nite. It was packed. The museum reopens after 16 year renovation…awesome..and the result is definitely worth it.
So basically the museum is open this weekend, from noon saturday to 5 pm on sunday, 31 hours non stop with free admission. So we went there last nite around 10 pm, predicting the people traffic will be less than the afternoon. Turned out, when we got there, the line to get into the museum was still miles long. We asked a few people in line and they said they’d been in line for 1 hour. Panic set in…and we basically just circled the building for another entrance to no avail. Then something happened.
Few people just left the museum and one guy came up to one of them asking whether he could have the green bracelet that was used as an admission proof. People with green bracelets could go in and out the museum anytime during this weekend…and he got IT..so we did the same thing and we got in in no time *grinz*…of course, we wished our bracelet donors luck and prosperity in the future LOLz.
We went to the observation tower first. The 360 degree view of San Francisco was amazing, although we could only see the city lights and darkness LOLz. Then we walked around the museum. There was a live DJ and some people were dancing. We looked through the American art and photography.
My favorite piece was "The Story of the Bodhisattva" by Binh Danh, because I think the process he used to create this piece is just mindblowing.
"Danh has invented a method of printing photographs onto the surface of leaves, using their own natural process of photosynthesis. He digitally renders existing photographs into negatives; then he sandwiches these negatives and still-living leaves between glass."
My favorite painting was "Rainy Season in the Tropics" by Frederic Edwin Church. It was just beautiful…
We went back home around 12…then I met some friends to pass on the admission bracelets…we decided not to keep them, cuz we felt that we should pass on the goodness *grinz*
Becoming 1 year older…
October 12, 2005
I definitely did a lot of laughing last weekend. You see, last Sunday was my b’day. Saturday was a waiting period for me…turning 1 year older is always harder for me lately…so I just wanted to take things easily that day. At nite, we just went out for dinner, then the three of us watched this messed up Korean movie at a friend’s apartment. Then around 11.40 pm, my sister told me to get back to the apartment since our mom would call at exactly 12 am. This sounded weird, cuz my mother knows that I wasn’t born at that time yet and she was never this sentimental. Nevertheless, I went back to our apartment and found a present from my sister on my bed *LOL*.
With new found happiness, I crawled up under my blanket, waiting for the phone call. Mery called me at 11.50 pm, claiming she can’t wait until 12 am to wish me a happy b’day cuz it’s already 3 am in Ohio and she just found it really hard to stay awake any longer *LOL*…she got even more disappointed when she found out that we had to cut the phone conversation short because my mom would call *LOL*.
Then my sister came back to our apartment. Suddenly there was a knock on the door. It turned out that they set up a surprise for me….they got me a b’day cake *yum…yum…* with candles that I blew…blew….and blew…until I realized that they bought the ones that you couldn’t put off easily just by blowing them *grumble grumble* They were sorry though, cuz I was so into blowing the candles that I didn’t realize I spray my spits on the cake hahaha…But they ate their cakes anyway hihihi. Afterwards, we just hang out and talked…which was nice, cuz we never got a chance to hang out together at our place.
Then, on Sunday, we went out for b’day dinner at Nikko Hotel….took some time to take stupid pictures with stupid chairs which can make you feel ridiculous and claustrophobic at the same time hahaha… then we raced against time and drove to the boba place, which was already closed *LOL*…so on Monday, after we had dinner together again, we drove very quickly to that boba place. It was 9.30 pm and the place was supposed to close at 10 pm….but the door was already closed. So, worried that we would miss it again, Yute, my sister, and I yelled stop to Handoyo who was driving and raced out of the car, scrambling toward the door….hahaha, even the seller looked so amused…This also proved that doesn’t matter how old you are, you can become like a little kid in no time hahaha.
Ugh…can’t sleep..
October 2, 2005
Ever feel so sleepy, yet you can’t sleep?…yup, I’m in that state of mind right now. So..at 3.22 AM San Francisco time, I decided to bother you guys with another pointless rambling. I bet I’m gonna have an earful from my sister later today, when she checked her e-mail and found out that I have updated my blog twice within 24 hours hahaha.
So, nothing really interesting happens this Saturday. Woke up in time, hit the snooze button on my cell phone, and fell asleep again hahaha. As the result, I was 10 minute late to work *blush blush*.
I got my mom’s text message about the Bali incident while at work. Somehow, the incident shocked her, because she just got back from business trip in Bali and ate 2 nights in a row at the restaurant blasted by the bombs.
In the evening, we almost didn’t go out at all….but yes, hunger got our lazy bums off the bed (no sofas, cuz on student budget hahaha) and into a Thai restaurant. The place was excellent…decoration was nice (my sister said it kinda reminded her of Front Row)….food was awesome (although at first I refused to pay $3.50 for fried banana with ice cream…it’s pisang goreng for crying out loud…even I can make that).
Then it’s just TV and Desperate Housewives season 1 CD 1 for the rest of the night. Kinda nice to just relax and watch TV….kinda feel guilty, cuz I took Friday and Saturday off from job hunting *sigh*…I just need to clear my head, I guess *trying to convice myself*….I’ll resume Sunday after church *again, trying to convice myself*…I promise…
Hmmpf!!

At least 3 bombs went off in Bali again today…approximately killing 25 and wounding 101 people…most of the victims are fellow Indonesians. Just when we think our country has healed, everything suddenly goes back to zero again *annoyed*..How are we supposed to move forward, if stupid, oh so stupid stuffs like this keep happening? *so annoyed*
"Indonesian mourners look at a list of dead victims of bomb blasts near a hospital in Bali."
