How do you know Christmas season is here?

"’Tis the season to be jolly, fa la la la la…la la la la…"

Ah, yes, back to my favorite subject, sinetron (Indonesian tv drama series).  So I saw a new one today…actually it was ok, the characters are fun, they are high schoolers, so there were none of those "I’m gonna poison you and blame your favorite daughter in law for it, so you will give all your money to me" stuffs (probably not yet is safer, agree?).  My favorite is the storyline, cuz it’s like watching a bunch of American and Taiwanese dramas mixed all in one.

First, there was this guy who met this girl at a party and they hooked up (ok ok, they felt a connection, this was a PG movie after all).  The next day, when the guy’s friends asked him at school about the hottie from last nite’s party, the guy pretended that last nite meant nothing to him.  Of course, the minute he said that, that girl, who turned out to be the new girl in his school, showed up behind him, heard his lie, and ran away crying (yeah, remember Grease?)

Then, it turned out that the guy was feeling depressed, cuz he was only allowed to dedicate his life to basketball, since that was his father’s dream for him (yeah, remember One Tree Hill?)

And his dad, the stern guy who wanted his son to succeed in basketball, is the basketball coach in the guy’s school.  And he was a meaaaan coach (yeah, remember MVP Lover?)

Now, things were getting better…it turned out that this show is a musical (no kidding!).  So of course, during the basketball practice, they had to sing, complete with dancing, using the balls as props.  At that time I thought, no freaking way…but yes, even they copied the dance movement from High School Musical.  My goodness, can’t they think of anything original?

Oh yeah, and the guy and the girl finally found out that they are next door neighbor, with bedrooms facing each other (Yeah, remember Drive Me Crazy?).  So that night, the girl, who was still angry at the guy, was in her balcony…and the guy tried to made up with her from his own balcony…with a paper plane, a heart shaped pillow with "please forgive me" written on it (my goodness, this is so cheesy…it was a pain to watch), and finally a phone call.

The cheesiest moment of the phone call:

Guy on the phone: so, what are you doing right now (just for the note, he could see her from his window, and vice versa)?

Girl on the phone: I’m hugging my doll now

Guy on the phone: If I can be your doll now, what do you think?

My goodness, my goodness, my goodness….Indonesian TV series, they are either copycats or just plain cheesy.  Sadly, this drama, "Idola", is the better one of the other Indonesian dramas out there now….cuz yesterday I just saw an advertisement for a drama with a title "she died and her face turned into a monkey face"….sigh…and they wonder why I like American TV shows better…

*Dedicated to my sister, Aurelia…I hope this post brightens up your day a bit more =D*

Me against the world

November 5, 2006

The past couple of weeks, I was angry with the world, because the world kept turning even though I stopped moving…because the circumstances that made me powerless…because of the things I feel I should control, yet I didn’t, cannot, and won’t be able to.  But mainly, I was angry at myself, for missing the opportunity of a lifetime.

Today I feel better…I haven’t made peace with myself yet, but I’m working toward it.  The priest said during the mass that the person who always sulks, who is always dark, who always sits by himself in the corner…that is someone who needs to be loved.  I don’t want people to feel sorry for myself.  So I guess I should learn to let go…though there is a part of me that will always hope that the past will catch up with me again in the future…
